Gold is one of the heaviest elements and it will start to migrate to the bottom of your pan. After a few minutes of gentle motion the materials in your pan will start to stratify. The heavier materials including any gold or black sand will sink to the bottom. Carefully check what is in your pan and if it appears to be gold remove it.
