Review: Star Wars the Clone Wars: Republic Heroes is geared towards the children

With the popularity of the Cartoon Network’s Clone War series, it’s obvious that the video games would soon follow. Republic Heroes is totally based on the animated series and has nothing to do with the Clone Wars movie. It follows Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and other Jedi and Clones as the try to defeat the Separatist forces intent on ruling the galaxy.

The gameplay can’t be any simpler. You begin controlling Anakin being able to jump, attack and use some Force powers as you run through levels defeating droids. Some of the droids you can jump on top of and control them to destroy other droids, but after awhile, the gameplay gets kind of boring. To change things up, the game has you play as a clone where you’re able to fire weapons, throw grenades, and melee with droids.

The

aiming system, although it’s automatic, is very poor and at times you’re being fired upon by enemies off screen and you can’t fire back because there’s no control of the camera. You actually have to move towards where the shots are coming from in order to fire back.

After awhile that gameplay gets boring as well and you move onto controlling flying vehicles and firing upon other flying vehicles and structures. It gets boring too.
